The name was changed to Career Point Business School; and later, in 2001, the name became Career Point Institute. Today, it is known as Career Point College and it has had that name since 2007. Throughout its transitions, the school has remained a good choice for those who wish to train in the medical, business, and technical fields.

Admissions

Once a student has decided this is the place to advance their career goals, the student must complete an application for admissions. Prospective students are required to have a high school diploma or GED, or the prospective student can take the Career Programs Assessment Test (CPAT). The CPAT is sanctioned by the ACT to serve as a guideline in determining educational achievement when a high school diploma or GED is not available. The CPAT also helps differentiate financial need, as the scores can be used on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid or FAFSA. Prospective students also have to submit transcripts from other educational experiences or vocational training he or she may have experienced if transferring over.

Financial Aid

Each student is encouraged to visit the financial aid department to speak with an advisor. If the prospective student is not local, they have the ability to connect with a financial aid officer on the telephone or through the Office of Financial Assistance section of the website.

New students are required to receive financial counseling to ensure that he or she understands what is available, become knowledgeable regarding the application process, and to prevent student loan default after graduation. All students are encouraged to submit an application for financial aid by filling out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). This form determines eligibility, federal funding amounts for various types of loans and for the Pell grant (which does not have to be paid back) based on the applicant’s financial data. The form can be submitted online or mailed.

Students are also encouraged to apply for financial aid or grants that may be provided in the state in which he or she resides or where he or she attends school. Institutional aid of various types, private loans from banks, and scholarships are also options to be considered. Work-study programs are offered with affiliates and partners which also helps with career placement. The Lora Garza scholarship is available to students who score at least a 410 on a specific math and language test offered by the College.

There is also the Emily Buck Memorial Fund, which offsets some of the costs incurred. These funds are to be paid back after matriculation. Any students interested in applying for various scholarships can secure all the necessary information online.
