Back in my day when I was riding bikes (1990s), Huffy was like a bare bones Toyota Corolla, and Mongoose and Dyno were more like a fully-loaded Toyota Camry in terms of quality, features, reliability, build, and performance. Things could have changed since, but we wouldn't be caught dead riding a Huffy back then. Might not matter as much for a 7-yo, but if the price is comparable, I'd personally go with the Mongoose...especially since he may be riding it until he's 10-12, depending on his size and how fast he grows.

Hope your son has fun!

All of these bikes are for store pickup only (shipping not available). My local store has a couple in stock of each of these styles. If interested, might want to buy soon as I think this deal will become increasingly YMMV.

I see a couple available locally. I am in market for my kids 12inch and 18-20inch. Walmart has Huffy Rock it for around $78. Any comparison or feedback for mongoose vs Huffy? My kid will be 7 and is around 4ft

Can this be used by girls for regular cycling? I am in the hunt for a 20" cycle but believe the BMX may not be the right style for my daughter.

There is more to it than just calling it a 20" bike. Fork angle and frame length from handlebars to seat also matter. My kid has the older version of the red mag shown here. He is 5' 4" and rides it just fine. In fact I jump on it every so often. It isn't something you would take on a 20 mile ride, but it is great to jump on, go down the neighborhood and have some fun with. Note it is way heavier than a Dyno or Haro, etc that some may remember from back in the 90's, but it is good for entry level tricks

I am 6'1", and I was riding 20" BMX bikes into my mid 20s. Heck, I'm almost 50 and still ride it sometimes.

I was also eyeing the walmart at $78. That one has coaster brake (brakes by backpedaling), while the Mongoose has hand brakes. That's one difference I see.

\nThere is more to it than just calling it a 20" bike. Note it is way heavier than a Dyno or Haro, etc that some may remember from back in the 90's, but it is good for entry level tricks","hideTimestamp":false,"timestampFormatted":"Yesterday at 03:55 PM.","isoDatetime":"2024-09-03T15:55:39-07:00","permalink":"/f/17731005-select-target-stores-mongoose-index-1-0-20-freestyle-kids-bike-85-more-free-store-pickup?p=172682154#post172682154","postId":172682154},"commentSectionCommentFooter":[],"commentIsHelpful":null,"commentGiveRepPopover":{"username":"JGuiher","userAvatar":"/images/avatar-150.png","headline":"Say Thanks & Give Rep!","subtext":"","authorText":"JGuiher posted this comment. \n I see a couple available locally. I am in market for my kids 12inch and 18-20inch. Walmart has Huffy Rock it for around $78. Any comparison or feedback for mongoose vs Huffy? My kid will be 7 and is around 4ft\n

\nI was also eyeing the walmart at $78. That one has coaster brake (brakes by backpedaling), while the Mongoose has hand brakes.
