Description

A nameless man wakes up in a snow-covered forest dressed in a hospital gown with no memories. As he trudges aimlessly, he is pursued by cruel monsters and eventually falls into a cave. There he sees the insect-like monster being devoured by an even more monstrous red slime, which now wants to attack him as well. Only through the help of Kuon, a girl with animal ears and a bushy tail, is he saved at the last second, and she takes him on the way back to the nearby village where, strangely enough, all the inhabitants have fluffy ears or animal-like body parts. She names him Haku, and the two eventually decide to travel together as Kuon is on her way to her home, the capital of Yamato. During their journey, they meet numerous new friends, have to get more and more deeply involved in political events, and, besides Haku’s past, try to find out something about the strange red slimes.

Ein namenloser Mann wacht gekleidet in einem Krankenhauskittel und ohne Erinnerungen in einem schneebedeckten Wald auf. Während er ziellos umher stapft, wird er von grausamen Monstern verfolgt und fällt schließlich in eine Höhle. Dort sieht er, wie das insektenartige Monster von einem noch viel monströseren roten Schleim verschlungen wird, der jetzt ebenso auf ihn losgehen will. Nur durch die Hilfe von Kuon, einem Mädchen mit Tierohren und buschigen Schwanz, wird er in letzter Sekunde gerettet, und sie nimmt ihm auf dem Rückweg mit ins nahegelegene Dorf, wo seltsamerweise alle Bewohner flauschige Ohren oder tierähnliche Körperteile besitzen. Sie gibt ihm den Namen Haku und die beiden beschließen schließlich zusammen weiterzureisen, da Kuon auf dem Weg in ihre Heimat ist, der Hauptstadt von Yamato. Während ihrer Reise treffen sie zahlreiche neue Freunde, müssen sich immer tiefer in politische Geschehnisse verwickeln lassen und versuchen neben Hakus Vergangenheit auch etwas über die seltsamen roten Schleime herauszufinden.
